Warrant issued in attack on Providence councilman

PROVIDENCE -

Providence police have obtained an arrest warrant for a 22-year-old convicted drug felon in connection with an attack on a city councilman last month.

Police said Tuesday that the warrant accuses Fray Molina of Providence of simple assault in the unprovoked attack on Councilman Davian Sanchez outside a hookah bar. Authorities are seeking a second man who hasn't been identified.

Sanchez, a Democrat who represents the South Side, says he and a friend were attacked by two men they didn't know as they were leaving the Escape Bar and Grill.

Molina's whereabouts aren't known. He currently is out on bail on a drug charge. In January 2011, he was sentenced to six months in prison on a drug conviction.
