Pawtucket opens 'warming centers'

The city of Pawtucket is opening four "warming centers" to help people escape the frigid cold temperatures expected after the snow storm.

  • Pawtucket Public Library, 13 Summer St., 9 a.m. to 8:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 2; and 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 3 and Saturday, Jan. 4.
  • St. Germain Manor Community Room, 475 Mineral Spring Ave., 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Friday and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
  • The RIPTA waiting room on Roosevelt Avenue downtown will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday.
  • The Blackstone Valley Visitor Center at 175 Main St. will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Seniors with heat-related issues may also contact the Senior Center at 401-728-7582 or the city's Seniors Liaison, Beth Roberge, at 401-728-0500, ext. 241.

The city said in a news release that the non-emergency numbers for police, 401-726-3911, and fire, 401-725-1424, are available for anyone who may need to arrange transportation to a warming center.
