Providence police are questioning a homeless man who told them he murdered a man more than 20 years ago.

Maj. David Lapatin of the Providence Police Department told NBC 10 the homeless man walked into the Providence Public Safety Complex on Friday and said he wanted to confess to the murder of Michael Holliday.

According to the Providence Journal, a workman discovered Holliday's body in a third-floor apartment at 27 Somerset St. on Feb. 24, 1990. Police investigated but never charged anyone with the killing.

According to Lapatin, after questioning the homeless man, police have decided to hold him in custody. The man has not been charged.
