Authorities are investigating after a woman's body was found in a wooded area on Christmas Day in West Warwick.
The body was discovered by firefighters responding to a brush fire near St. Joseph's Cemetery.
The state medical examiner's office said Thursday that the 42-year-old woman died as a result of "thermal injuries and inhalation of products of combustion.
Police said they're working to determine the woman's identity.
Police said the fire department was called Wednesday at about 8:21 p.m. to a wooded area on Gough Avenue for a report of a brush fire and discovered the body.
Ron Gorton, who lives near where the woman's body was found, said he didn't smell smoke or notice fire.
"We were all sitting down just watching TV and didn't realize anything until we saw the fire department pull up," he said.
Neighbors told NBC 10 said it's not rare for people to be passing through the cemetery, but that they've never seen anything like this.
"It's definitely a great neighborhood. I'm friendly with everybody, everybody's friendly. I was shocked to hear (the news)," said neighbor Greg Fogell.
