Providence's police union is suing the city over overtime pay.
The suit seeks back wages for 476 officers, both current and retirees. It was filed Monday in U.S. District Court.
It claims the city failed to include longevity pay while calculating overtime pay.
A union attorney says back pay and damages could reach $1 million.
A spokesman for Mayor Angel Taveras could not be reached Tuesday for comment on the lawsuit.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.
