Fire in Providence leaves 8 people homeless

Posted: Updated:

A mid morning fire in a three-story wood- frame house in Providence on Saturday leaves seven adults and one child homeless.

Deputy Assistant Chief Joseph R. Desmarais of the Providence Fire Department told NBC 10 that the fire broke out shortly after 11 a.m. at the home located at 56-58 Warrington Street. According to the chief no civilians were injured in the fire, but one firefighter did receive an injury to their hand and has been treated.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but preliminary investigation indicates that the fire began on the first floor. Firefighters were able to get the blaze under control quickly, but there was some extension to the other floors of the home; however it is smoke and water damage that have made the residence uninhabitable.

The Red Cross has been called and will be assisting the displaced occupants.
