RI man gets 15 years in child pornography case

Posted: Updated:

A 36-year-old Providence man has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison for producing child pornography overseas and bringing it into the United States.

The office of the federal prosecutor in Rhode Island said Juan Carlos Santiago was sentenced Friday in U.S. District Court in Providence. State and federal authorities arrested him in December 2012 and he later pleaded guilty to one count of production of child pornography outside the U.S. and transportation into the country.

Investigators say Santiago had digitally recorded sexual contacts with a prepubescent minor in the Dominican Republic.

The judge also ordered Santiago to register as a sex offender, pay $1,825 in restitution to the victim for expenses related to counseling and serve a lifetime supervised release.
