Conn. woman charged in scam at restaurant

Posted: Updated:

A Connecticut woman has been arrested in connection with a credit card skimming scam involving more than 30 incidents at a Rhode Island restaurant.

Westerly police charged 44-year-old Shao Ting Zhu of Norwich, Conn., with fraudulently obtaining and using a credit card. The Westerly Sun reports Zhu was arrested Monday and police continue to investigate.

Authorities say a skimming device was used to copy credit card numbers at China Buffet restaurant in Westerly and to create bogus credit cards. Police say Zhu used fraudulent cards to buy hundreds of dollars of merchandise at a Wal-Mart.

Police say Zhu didn't work at the restaurant.

Zhu is to be arraigned Jan. 3 in Wakefield District Court. There's no phone listing for her. It's not clear if she has a lawyer.
