A notorious Rhode Island criminal has been released from federal prison.
Edward " Buckles" Melise was released from the federal prison at Ft. Devens in Massachusetts earlier this week.
Melise pleaded guilty in 2010 to charges of conspiracy to distribute the prescription painkiller Oxycodone. He was sentenced to three years, 10 months in prison.
Melise served under Cianci in the 1980s. He had earlier served four years in prison after pleading guilty to extorting more than $64,000 from three contractors hired by the city to plow snow. He is now at a half-way house in Philadelphia.
