Busy afternoon at Hotel Providence

PROVIDENCE -

Providence fire crews and National Grid personal were kept busy Sunday afternoon when they responded to an incident at the Hotel Providence on Mathewson Street.

The initial call for the hotel was that there was a fire in the basement, after an initial investigation when they arrived on scene it was determined that there was a fire in an electrical unit in the basement of the hotel. Fire crews on scene requested National Grid to come to the scene to assist with the inicident.

According to the Providence Fire Department the scene was still an active scene, but they were working on addressing the problem.

Fire also told NBC 10 that the guests were never in any immediate danger and that there was never a need to evacuate the building.

There is no word yet on the extent of the damage.
