Parking ban in Providence during winter storm

Posted: Updated:
PROVIDENCE -

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has declared a citywide parking ban ahead of a winter storm that is expected to bring snow, sleet and freezing rain to Rhode Island.

Taveras says the parking ban comes into force at 9 p.m. Saturday and will remain in effect until further notice.

His aide says the measure will ensure that roads can be plowed.

All vehicles violating the parking ban will be ticketed and towed.

The city's storm hotline will not be open during this storm.

The National Weather Service says the storm will begin as light snow on Saturday afternoon before the snow becomes heavy overnight. It will then change to rain toward daybreak Sunday, with a brief period of sleet and freezing rain possible during the transition.
