City board suspends strip club's license

PROVIDENCE -

A Providence strip club was closed for 20 days following a prostitution investigation that resulted in the arrests of two women.

The Providence Board of Licenses voted Wednesday to suspend the Satin Doll's license. The club was also fined $4,000.

Police said two dancers offered to perform sexual acts for undercover detectives. The business has denied the accusations.

Providence Mayor Angel Taveras has proposed a "one-strike" law that would close any club that employs underage dancers or where dancers are caught soliciting customers.

Licensing Board Chairman Andrew Annaldo has proposed an ordinance to eliminate small private booths and would require all public spaces in an adult entertainment club to be at least 1,000 square-feet in size.

In October, the licensing board fined Cheater's Gentleman's Club and suspended its license for 45 days after authorities say it illegally hired a 15-year-old girl and allowed prostitution.
