Former Cape Cod veterans officer indicted for embezzlement

Posted: Updated:
CAPE COD, Mass. -

A former officer with the Cape Cod chapter of Disabled American Veterans, Inc., has been charged with stealing from the office.

Richard Trott, Sr., 62, of East Sandwich, is accused with stealing approximately $125,000 from the charitable organization.

Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley announced the charges Friday, alleging Trott created several organizations as a "thinly-disguised" effort to defraud donors.

The investigation began in May, and investigators believe the crimes date back to 2009.

Trott will be arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court at a later date.
