Lamar Odom returns to URI

Posted: Updated:

For the first time in nearly 15 years, former University of Rhode Island star Lamar Odom, returned to a Rams basketball game today.

Odom was sporting Rhody baby blue as he sat in the front row next to the south basket.

He arrived with little fan fare, but that changed late in the first half when he was honored during a time out.

The former Lakers stand out was a one year star in Kingston. Averaging 18 points a game he famously sealed the Rams first ever Atlantic 10 title. His three point shot at the buzzer against Temple won the Rams the 1999 A-10 championship and sent Rhode Island to the NCAA Tournament.

A moment replayed today on the school's big board

Lately Odom has mostly made headlines off the court, reports as recent as yesterday have linked him to drug use, and his marital problems with reality star Khloe Kardashian have become tabloid fodder.

But his return to town is an attempt at an NBA comeback. He's working with local trainer Rob McClanaghan, a former Hendricken basketball player, who's worked with numerous high profile athletes.

NBC 10 tried to speak with Odom but he declined comment. This is his first return to town since he was drafted, and he was greeted earlier this week by among others, TMZ.
