The driver in a deadly crash in Richmond is due in court Monday.
Nicholas Gershkoff, 20, of North Kingstown was killed when the pickup truck he was riding in flipped over on Hillsdale Road.
The driver Zachary Thole, 20, of Richmond has been charged with Driving Under the Influence with Death Resulting.
A second passenger in the truck suffered only minor injuries.
Rescue crews were on scene at about 7:30 p.m. Friday near 112 Hillsdale Road in Richmond after reports of a pickup truck that rolled over.
Christina Seggos is a resident of the area, and while she was saddened by the tragic accident she was not surprised that it happened. She told NBC 10 "I just felt it was bound to happen with the new road paved and widening and people driving fast all the time, it's very scary and a young person losing their life, it's tragic."
It's not yet known if speed was a factor in the crash but Thole has been charged with Driving Under the Influence with Death Resulting. Gershkoff was pronounced dead at the scene after being found pinned underneath the overturned vehicle.
Thole faces 5-15 years in jail if convicted of the charges he's facing.
State Police Col. Steven O'Donnell asks the public to continue to be vigilant in expressing the dangers of drinking and driving, telling NBC 10 "this is a hundred percent preventable, holidays are coming up, we have Thanksgiving. The idea of Thanksgiving is to give thanks. It's the holiday season, if there's any other reason to slow down it's so you can spend time with Thanksgiving or you don't have to get a night in jail."
