Woman arrested for trafficking 14-year-old runaway

Posted: Updated:

A Providence woman is in jail for allegedly prostituting a runaway 14-year-old Pawtucket girl.

Nicole Ferreira, 21, was charged with trafficking after she allegedly posted photos of the girl online and offering sex for cash. The 14-year-old was reported missing in August.

Pawtucket detectives say Ferreira prostituted the teen to about 50 men. Police say Ferreira admitted to detectives that she knew the 14-year-old girl was underage, but that didn't stop her from posting the minor's photo on the website backpage.com as a way to entice men to hire her for sex.

Detectives eventually located the missing teen, along with other girls, in the basement of a house at 125 Westwood Ave. in Cranston.

Police say the 14-year-old girl told them that Ferreira was the mastermind of the sex for cash operation, in charge of advertising and posting photos online, booking, and managing the money the business made.

Ferreira was arraigned Wednesday, and is being held on $50,000 bail.
