A Providence councilman wants the Board of Licenses to reconsider its decision not to permanently revoke the license of a strip club authorities say illegally hired a 14-year-old as a dancer and permitted prostitution.
Majority Leader Seth Yurdin says in a letter to the board Wednesday he is dismayed about its decision to fine Cheaters Gentlemen's Club $5,000 and suspend its licenses for 45 days. He calls it a "severe dereliction of duty."
Public Safety Commissioner Steven Paré wanted to revoke the club's licenses for good. Board Chairman Andrew Annaldo said the suspension and fines would send a forceful message and deter violations.
The teen allegedly presented Cheaters management with a fraudulent ID.
The club voluntarily closed in August after a dancer was arrested on a charge of prostitution.
