Investigators with the Bristol County District Attorney's office are ruling the death of a Fairhaven woman a homicide.
The victim is 69-year-old Joyce Howland.
She was found dead in her home on Hamlet Street by a friend Tuesday morning.
Investigators say the friend went to Howland's house to check on her, concerned after not being able to get in touch with her.
Police launched an investigation right away, but announced their conclusion that Howland was a homicide victim more than 24 hours later. The District Attorney's office says autopsy results and results of the preliminary investigation led to the determination.
The Bristol County District Attorney's office spokesman tells NBC10 this does not appear to be a random act of violence, that the victim likely knew her attacker or attackers.
Investigators aren't saying any more specifically about what led them to believe Howland was a homicide victim. They're not saying anything about possible suspects either.
