A Massachusetts state senator has called for the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station in Plymouth to be decommissioned.
Democratic Sen. Daniel Wolf told a crowd at the Statehouse that there is a real risk of a catastrophe.
The plant was recently re-licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission for another 20 years.
According to The Cape Cod Times, Wolf appeared at a panel discussion that included former Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Kan was in power during the Fukishima nuclear disaster in 2011.
In a statement, Entergy Corp., the company that operates Pilgrim, said the Plymouth plant is safe and gets excellent safety ratings from the NRC.
