Police say suspect assaults victims during break-ins

TAUNTON, Mass. -

Taunton police are alerting neighbors in the area of Barnum, Clinton, and Winthrop streets to a string of break-ins with an added invasion of personal space.

Investigators say the burglar isn't just stealing jewelry but also touching women who live in the homes while they sleep, and sexually assaulted the latest victim.

Police say the suspect is doing this whether or not someone else is in the bed with the victims.

The suspect getting in through unlocked windows and doors, usually taking jewelry, then touching the sleeping women. They also say when one victim confronted the suspect, he said he was homeless and looking for food.

Police are urging residents to lock their windows and doors and report suspicious activity to them.

He's described as a stocky white man with dark hair and a light beard.
