In what has been called an unprecedented event, Boston Cardinal Sean O'Malley has invited Massachusetts state lawmakers to join him at a breakfast meeting next week
O'Malley wants to hold what the Boston Globe described as an 'informal continental breakfast' Oct. 17.
The Cardinal reportedly will discuss some of the social service programs being provided by Catholic Charities and other church organizations.
The meeting comes as lawmakers on Beacon Hill plan to discuss legislation, that would extend the statute of limitations in civil sexual abuse cases. Catholic officials previously have opposed the legislation.
The Globe says the proposed bill would create a one-year window, for alleged victims over the age of 55 to report allegations.
