WOONSOCKET, R.I. -

Rhode Island state Rep. Lisa Baldelli-Hunt has scored a landslide victory over Woonsocket Mayor Leo Fontaine in the city's mayoral primary.

As the top two vote-getters in Tuesday's primary, they will square off in the general election on Nov. 5. The race is non-partisan.

The Woonsocket Call reports that unofficial results from the board of canvassers showed Baldelli-Hunt with 2,746 votes to Fontaine's 881. Baldelli-Hunt is in her fourth term in the General Assembly. Fontaine has served two terms as mayor.

Two other candidates, Dave Fisher and Michael Moniz, were also on the ballot.

Woonsocket has been placed under the oversight of a state-appointed budget commission because of its troubled finances. The commission has sharply raised property taxes.
