A Providence man accused in the killing of a 12-year-old girl was ordered held without bail Friday.
Branden Castro, 21, pleaded not guilty at his arraignment to charges of murder, conspiracy to commit a felony, assault with a dangerous weapon, and discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence.
Investigators say Castro was the one who pulled the trigger in the June killing of 12-year-old Aynis Vargas.
The girl was shot to death at graduation party in the Hartford Park housing project. Three women were hurt.
Prosecutors say Castro and other members of the Harriet Street or "H-Block" gang carried out the shooting. Police said they believe the shooting was intended to send a message to the rival Hartford Park gang.
Four adults and one juvenile have been implicated in the killing.
Ricardo Vasquez, 21, pleaded guilty to a murder charge last week.
