A Special Forces soldier from New Jersey who served with the Rhode Island National Guard was honored Monday in his hometown.
Staff Sgt. Timothy McGill, 30, of Ramsey, N.J., was wounded during small arms fire and died Sept. 21.
Supporters lined the streets to pay tribute to McGill.
The Defense Department said McGill was one of three soldiers killed by an Afghan wearing a security forces uniform in an attack near the Pakistan border.
McGill is the sixth Rhode Island National Guard soldier killed in a combat zone since the 9/11 attacks.
