WEST WARWICK, R.I. -

A man faces child abuse charges after police say he lodged an object deep down his daughter's throat.

Ronald Bliss, 34, turned himself into West Warwick police on Monday. He was arraigned in District Court and charged with one count of first-degree child abuse. Bliss was released on $20,000 personal recognizance.

Detective Capt. Ernest Lavigne said officers responded to an apartment on Ellison Street on Sept. 6 and found Bliss's 6-week-old daughter choking.

Officers discovered an object had been lodged deep into the child's throat. Police said the object was eventually removed at Hasbro Children's Hospital.

Police did not say what the object was.
