Two brothers arrested in connection with a shooting in East Providence were ordered held Tuesday when they were unable to post bail.
Alexis Valdez was being held on $50,000 with surety, and his brother, Eric Valdez, was being held on $100,000 with surety. Their next court appearances were set for Dec. 10.
Police said two groups of men got into an argument Sunday at the Central Avenue playground. The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation and a shot being fired.
A 22-year-old old man was shot in the chest. He remained in critical condition Tuesday at Rhode Island Hospital.
Police said they executed a search warrant Monday at 85 Williams Ave. and arrested the Valdez brothers.
Alexis Valdez, 18, was charged with assault with intent to commit murder, conspiracy and using a firearm when committing a crime of violence. Eric Valdez, 24, was charged with simple assault and conspiracy.
Police said the motive for the shooting is still under investigation.
