Three teens are in trouble and another is in custody at the after an alleged box cutter slashing incident that happened in a stairwell at Mount Pleasant High School right around lunch time Friday afternoon.
Concerned Providence Mom Janey McDaniel said, "I'm pretty happy that the police are going to take care of it because there's too much bullying going on right now and it's like, serious."
Providence parents like McDaniel are disturbed after finding out about the fight that happened in a stairwell at Mount Pleasant High School at around 12:30 p.m.
According to Providence Police, the three-on-one fight involved four teenage males, and ended when the boy who was initially being assaulted by the other three teens pulled out a box cutter and slashed one of his alleged attackers in the neck.
After suffering only minor cuts, the alleged slashing victim and two other boys who were said to have been originally pummeling the young victim, ran away.
Parents say it's tough NOT to speculate about what appears to be the tell-tale circumstances of the fight.
When asked if the fact that the original assault victim was carrying a box cutter with him at school told her ‘that the boy may have been scared,' McDaniel said, "Yeah. It does, I bet he was scared, yeah. you know? He obviously knew he was getting bullied at school."
McDaniel also agreed that the entire incident makes her wonder how the high school fight would have ended if the teen had NOT been carrying a hidden box cutter.
To that, McDaniel said, "It probably would have ended with serious injuries (to the initial victim) with three-on-one."
Concerned resident Natasha Luigui noted that even if a bullying victim doesn't get injured in an altercation, they sometimes hurt themselves later, after continued abuse at school.
Luigui said, "Sometimes it ends up in suicides. A lot of suicides have happened throughout all cities. They think no one can help them, which is scary."
After hearing several parents talk about what had happened at Mt. Pleasant High in the stairwell, local cheerleading coach Melissa McClain said, "I feel very upset with the young kids today that are having so much violence going on. And I have younger children, and I just hope and pray that everything is alright with them, the children that were hurt."
McClain says she thinks the answer is more security at school.
"I think that they should be protected more. I think the (school resource) cops should be out here more for the children today, and it's come to that point. So I was hoping that they could have more security for those that are going to school that are trying to learn," she said.
All four teens who were allegedly involved in the Mt. Pleasant High School fight are being charged with crimes.
The boy who allegedly pulled out and used the box cutter faces assault with a dangerous weapon charges, while the other three are now charged with simple assault.
