PROVIDENCE -

An angry, gun-wielding customer gave a UPS driver the scare of a lifetime Thursday, Providence police said.

Police identified the suspect as 68-year-old Dana Simmons.

Police sources told NBC 10 the suspect was upset about a delivery, jumped in the UPS truck, and at some point pulled a gun.

The suspect and driver fought as the truck was moving along Hospital Street, ultimately hitting a curb outside a deli and bar.

Police said the gun went off as the driver and suspect struggled. The bullet apparently hit the second floor above the deli.

Simmons is facing a charge of felony assault with a firearm. He was being held overnight at Providence police headquarters and is due in court Friday.

A representative from UPS said the driver was OK and that the rest is up to police.
