Police: Providence man tries to run over ex-girlfriend

A Providence man tried to run over his ex-girlfriend with his car in a hotel parking lot early Wednesday in Auburn, Mass., police said.

James Miranda, 27, faces numerous charges including attempted murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, aggravated assault and battery, failing to stop for a police officer and negligent driving.

According to the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, police said a clerk at La Quinta Inn on Southbridge Street called 911 at about 12:30 a.m. to report a disturbance in the parking lot.

Police said Alyssa Giglio, 24, of Pawtucket, and her new boyfriend, whom police would not name, were in the parking lot yelling at each other after learning the at the tires of her car had been slashed.

While they were yelling, police said Giglio was contacted on her cellphone by Miranda, her former live-in boyfriend. He sent Giglio a photo of her standing next to her vehicle with the slashed tires, as well as the message that he was watching her, the newspaper reported.

The newspaper reported as Giglio was looking at the phone, Miranda allegedly drove around the corner, accelerate and hit her from behind with his car. Giglio's head hit the car's windshield and she was thrown over the roof and the trunk of the car and landed on her head in the parking lot.

Police told the newspaper Giglio was taken to the hospital, and suffered hip and head injuries.

Witnesses provided a description of Miranda's car.

According to the newspaper, police said an officer found the car on Route 20 and tried to pull it over. Instead, police said Miranda fled at high speed into Worcester.

Police said Miranda later crashed his vehicle and fled on foot near Routes 20 and 146, the newspaper reported.

Authorities later found Miranda hiding in heavy brush that runs alongside the Worcester and Providence Railroad.
