PROVIDENCE -

Three additional suspects were charged Thursday in the killing of a 12-year-old girl in Providence, police said.

Aynis Vargas was shot to death at a graduation celebration at the Hartford Park housing project in June. Three women were injured in the shooting.

"The senseless death of Aynis Vargas touched the soul of our city," said Providence Mayor Angel Taveras.

Luis Gonzales, 23, and Angel Valerio, 19, were indicted on murder, conspiracy, assault and gun charges. They were ordered held without bail after their arraignments in Providence Superior Court.

A 17-year-old boy was charged with one count of murder, two counts of conspiracy, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and four counts of discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence. He appeared in Family Court and was ordered held at the Training School.

Branden Castro, 21, and Ricardo Vasquez, 20, both of Providence, appeared in court in July to face murder, conspiracy and other charges.

Prosecutors said the five men and the juvenile opened fire on the graduation party on June 15. Vargas was killed. Vilma Tineo, Elaine Devargas and Eugelyn Cabrera were injured.

"We're very confident everybody involved in the June 15 shooting in Hartford Park is going to be brought to justice," said Chief Hugh Clements of the Providence Police Department.

Authorities told NBC 10 that Gonzalez, Valerio and the juvenile were among a group of gang members talking to police on Sackett Street when three members of another gang opened fire.

"This is all part of a continuing feud between two neighborhoods, two groups, two gangs," Clements said.

Clements told the Providence Journal that investigators had no help from the community and that they had to rely on "old-fashioned" police work.
