Computers stolen from New Bedford school

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -

A New Bedford school for underperforming high school students has been targeted by a thief or thieves who stole 26 netbooks, an iPad and a 55-inch smart television.

Angel Diaz, IT director at YouthBuild, said more than $10,000 worth of electronics was taken.

"A lot of them are hurt because a lot of them view YouthBuild as a family. And someone came in and took from their family," he said.

The glass window on the second-floor computer room door was shattered before a locked cabinet holding the netbooks was broken into.

YouthBuild wants answers but is not letting the theft deter it from continuing its mission to prepare students.

The school has an insurance policy and plans to file a claim for the lost equipment.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
