Jeremy Hilton is now without his left ear after his friend allegedly bit it off.

"I thought it just took a little chunk or something. I didn't think my ear was gone," Hilton said Tuesday.

Nicholas Parlee, 21, of Providence, is accused of biting Hilton's ear off as they were leaving The Met nightclub on Main St. Saturday night.

Hilton told NBC 10 that Parlee was drunk and that he wanted to make sure Parlee wasn't going to get behind the wheel.

"That's when the fight ensued. He pushed me. I went to the ground. Then I just felt a tug on my ear. I have no idea after that. It was a blur," Hilton said. "I remember in the ambulance, and they told me my ear is in a rubber glove."

Surgeons could not re-attach the ear.

"I'm out of my work. I have a child with autism. I have no idea what to do right now," Hilton said.

Hilton may be having just as hard a time getting over the emotional damage as the physical.

He and Parlee work together at a fence company.

Hilton, 43, said he took the young man half his age under his wing a few months ago, even letting Parlee stay with him and his wife for a week.

"I never thought this would happen. I love the kid like he was my own son … I helped him with the troubles. I just don't understand. I don't understand it. My mind is boggled … I love him. I don't know how to forgive him for this. I don't," Hilton said.

NBC 10 also spoke with the suspect, Nicholas Parlee, who was charged with mutilation or disabling.

Parlee said he feels awful, but he didn't want to comment further without talking to his lawyer.
