A dog that North Smithfield police said attacked a woman and her greyhound was returned Monday to a shelter, where it was quarantined.
North Smithfield police said the mixed-breed dog got loose from its owner's home on St. Paul Street at about 7 p.m. Friday and attacked a greyhound. The greyhound's owner was bitten by the mixed-breed trying to separate the dogs.
An animal control officer ordered the dog, which belonged to William Figuerido, quarantined at home for 10 days.
Police said Figuerido had the dog for less than a month and decided to return it to the North Kingstown Animal Shelter, where he had adopted it. The dog remained quarantined at the shelter.
The greyhound and its owner were treated for bite and puncture wounds.
