A 22 year old male pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle early Sunday morning on the Washington Bridge in East Providence.
Rhode Island State Police tell NBC 10 that the pedestrian, a 22 year old male, whose identity has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene after he was struck by a vehicle just after 4 a.m. on the eastbound side of Route 195.
According to Corporal Alfred Ruggiero of the Rhode Island State Police the man was walking along the side of the road when one motorist noticed him and swerved to avoid him, however the motorist that was in the car behind did not notice him and struck him.
The accident closed the center lane and blocked the two left lanes for about 2 hours while crews cleaned up the accident.
Police are withholding the identity of the victim and the motorist at this time.
