Police release information about school lockdown

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -

Police said reports of two shootings caused a school lockdown in New Bedford on Monday.

Sgt. William Carney Academy was locked down for about an hour due to a pair of reported shootings in the area.

The Standard-Times reported that both shootings happened at about 2 p.m. near the school.

Police said students were never in any danger and that the assistant principal talked to parents waiting outside.

Three people are in custody in connection with the shootings.
