Rhode Island apple crop expected to be plentiful

Posted: Updated:

Rhode Island's annual apple harvest kicks off Friday, September 6. It's the third year of the celebration.

September is the time when many varieties of apples are ready to be picked.

Friday's event will take place at Phantom Farms at 2929 Diamond Hill Road in Cumberland. This year's Apple Harvest Day event will also celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the RI Fruit Growers Association and will include various exhibits and displays and a tour. The public is invited to attend.

Governor Chafee has proclaimed September 6th as Rhode Island Apple Harvest Day. It's to bring attention to the history and value of our local apple industry.

Fruit growers report that it's expected to be a plentiful apple crop this year.
