Missing tortoise returned to owner

SOMERSET, Mass. -

A pet tortoise called Waffle was returned to its home in Somerset.

The 35-pound sulcata tortoise was reported missing about five days ago when it escaped from the Kennedy family's yard.

Elise Kennedy said her family was worried because Waffle needs a special diet.

The tortoise was with a man and his girlfriend, who live down the street. They saw the story on NBC 10 and called the Kennedys.

"They wanted to give him a good home and saw him out in the street and felt that he wasn't being taken care of. So, I explained everything to them. They're actually going to get a baby tortoise now, so another one will be saved," Kennedy said.

Family and tortoise were reunited Monday night.
