$1,500 reward offered in abandoned kittens case

CHARLESTOWN, R.I. -

Charlestown's animal control officer is hoping a new $1,500 reward will lead to the arrest of the person who abandoned 14 kittens found ailing in a sealed box by the side of a road last weekend.

Animal Control Officer Kathy McA'Nulty told The Westerly Sun that the reward is being offered by the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for information leading to an arrest.

The kittens were found in a sealed cardboard box off Indian Cedar Drive last Saturday.

Officials are treating the kittens with antibiotics for upper respiratory infections, and some of them have ulcerated eyes.

McA'Nulty says all the kittens are expected to survive and they'll be put up for adoption after they recover and are spayed and neutered.
