A man accused of killing two women and kidnapping a toddler was set to appear in court for a bail hearing Tuesday that has now been rescheduled for Sept. 24.
Daniel Rodriguez, 28, is being held without bail on allegations he killed his ex-girlfriend, 40-year-old Evelyn Burgos, and her 25-year-old daughter, Vanessa Perez, at Burgos' home on Aug. 11. Police say he then kidnapped Burgos' 2-year-old son, Isaiah Perez, who was later found unharmed in Providence.
Burgos had been granted a temporary restraining order against Rodriguez on July 26. Division of Sheriffs officials say normal steps were taken to serve the order on Rodriguez, but they couldn't find him. Restraining orders aren't valid until served.
Family members of the victims told NBC 10 they are still afraid of what Rodriguez can do, even behind bars.
"He is a monster. What he did was a tragedy to these women. I feel like if he's done it once he'll do it again and he'll continue doing it," a cousin of Evelyn Burgos said.
Family members are holding a charity event for victims of domestic violence from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 8 at Margaret Walsh Park. Proceeds will go to the children of Evelyn Burgos and other families of domestic violence.
