CRANSTON, R.I. -

John Dubis was once an East Greenwich firefighter, retiring more than 10 years ago with a disability pension.

Now, family and neighbors describe a man who is plagued by mental illness and detached from reality.

The 49-year-old Coventry resident is accused of making himself at home at the Hamptons estate of Jennifer Lopez earlier this month.

J-Lo wasn't there, but security was.  Even so, media reports out of New York paint a picture in which Dubis would freely walk around the grounds, and post pictures on Facebook, as he stayed in the pool house undetected for nearly a week.

He's now being held in New York, where a judge has ordered a mental evaluation.

Police in Southampton say Lopez already had a protective order against Dubis.  Celebrity news site TMZ reports the order was the result of Dubis contacting Lopez's mother earlier this year.

Neighbors in Coventry tell NBC 10 Dubis is infatuated with Lopez, even spray-painting what they say is a tribute to the star on his driveway.  They say Dubis also went by an alter ego he called David Lopez.

Dubis' ex-wife, Patricia, told NBC 10 he suffers from mental illness, diagnosed as bi-polar.  She calls this a sad situation for him, and for the entire family.  She says Dubis latched on to Jennifer Lopez while she was a judge on American Idol, that he thought J-Lo was talking to him through the TV.

Meanwhile a big star with a big home in Rhode Island once again had an unwelcome guest.  A man from Maine is charged with trespassing at Taylor Swift's mansion in the Watch Hill section of Westerly.

And apparently it wasn't his first run-in there.  Police say they gave 55-year-old John Bernatche a no trespass order for the property back in April.  But they say he went to the home again a few weeks ago, handing a security guard a note with his cell phone number on it, telling Swift to give him a call.
