Classes are beginning at the new medical school at Quinnipiac University.
The 60 students in the first class at the Frank H. Netter MD School of Medicine began classes Monday at Quinnipiac's North Haven campus.
The school has a full-time faculty of 22 professors and 298 clinical faculty members drawn from hospitals around Connecticut including St. Vincent's Medical Center of Bridgeport, its principal clinical partner.
The founding dean of the medical school, Dr. Bruce Koeppen, says it will develop physicians who become key members of patient-centered health care teams.
The medical school received preliminary accreditation last year from the Liaison Committee on Medical Education. It is named for Dr. Frank H. Netter, a well-known medical illustrator whose drawings have helped educate students for decades.
