NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -

Authorities have identified a man who was killed in a house fire Friday night and believe that smoking may have played a role in the blaze.

The state's fire marshal's office told NBC 10 the man was 52-year-old Daniel Bresnahan and the house was a summer home for the family.

The fire broke out just after 10 p.m. Friday at 21 Algonquin Road. Officials said it was a very smoky blaze and neighbors say firefighters were there within minutes.

"I was in bed, so it was kind of shocking, million things run through your mind, is my house in trouble, anybody in the house," neighbor Jim Williamson told NBC 10.

Officials told NBC 10 the fire started in the living room, which is in the rear of the house, and that they actually found Bresnahan near the front door.

Bresnahan was married with two children. The medical examiner's office is planning an autopsy.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
