Diocese responds to claims of 'miracle' at North Providence church
By NBC 10 News
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence said Monday it's highly unlikely that an image on a metal cross at a North Providence church that some say is an etching of the Virgin Mary is the result of divine intervention.
Some people said they see an etching of the Virgin Mary on the cross on top of the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Some say they also see the baby Jesus in Mary's arms.
The Diocese said "if the image inspires individuals to a renewed faith in God and greater charity, that's a positive message."
Since last week, a steady stream of people has been stopping to look at the cross.
