I-Team: Mass. AG fines RI-based marketing firm $125K

CRANSTON, R.I. -

An NBC 10 I-Team investigation last summer into a North Providence-based marketing firm has resulted in the firm being fined by the Massachusetts attorney general.

The I-Team investigation revealed that the Dynamic Marketing Solutions and a related company, Bay State Veterans, were actually pocketing up to 85 percent of the funds raised that were supposed to go to veteran's organizations.

The Massachusetts attorney general's office, after viewing the I-Team investigation, conducted its own probe into the allegations the I-Team raised in its story.

On Wednesday, Attorney General Martha Coakley imposed a fine of $125,000 against Thomas Gity Jr., the founder of Dynamic Marketing. She also has filed a lawsuit against John Chaves, who was the president of Dynamic Marketing.

Coakley said the fine was imposed because "Dynamic Marketing engaged in deceptive practices," when raising money for veterans groups, and in reality keeping most of the money for the company.
