Worker escapes injury in fire at auto parts yard

WEST WARWICK, R.I. -

A small fire broke out Friday in an auto parts yard in West Warwick.

The owner of Ruggieri Auto Parts at 5 Greenhill St. said an employee was using an electric pump to drain a fuel tank.

"When he went to plug in the electric fuel pump, it ignited. Then that caused a spark and ignited the tank. It was a short in the wire," Richard Ruggieri said.

No one was hurt, and the fire was knocked down quickly.

The state Department of Environmental Management was called in as a precaution, but the fire chief said he didn't see anything hazardous besides oil.
