National Grid said the failure of an underground cable was to blame for a power outage Wednesday that left about 800 homes and businesses in Providence with no electricity on one of the hottest days of summer.
The State House and WLNE-TV were among the buildings that lost power at about 11 a.m.
Power was restored to the State House before noon, and power to all customers was restored by 2 p.m.
A National Grid representative said an underground cable failed. It was not clear if the outage was related to the extreme heat.
A handful of customers were also without power in Kent and Washington counties Wednesday.
