Mayor tries to sell Market Basket on Fall River

Posted: Updated:

Fall River's mayor is inviting Market Basket to expand into the city.

In a letter to the supermarket chain's president, Mayor Will Flanagan says Market Basket would make a good replacement for a Shaw's store that is closing in the next few weeks.

Flanagan tells Anthony Chernalis that the 52,500-square-foot store on William S. Canning Boulevard draws not only Fall River residents, but also residents from Tiverton, Little Compton and Aquidneck Island in Rhode Island.

Tewksbury-based Market Basket has been expanding. It is building a store in South Attleboro on the site of a former Shaw's.
