Shaw's supermarket said Monday that it is closing six more stores in Southern New England.
The stores to be closed are in Westerly, Woonsocket, William S. Canning Boulevard in Fall River, Fairhaven, Stoughton and Taunton.
The company said in an email to NBC 10 that the stores have not been profitable for "quite some time."
"We have not been able to reposition them to better compete in the marketplace and don't anticipate being able to change this trend," spokesman Steve Sylven said.
It was not immediately known how many workers would be affected.
Sylven said the stores will be closed no later than Aug. 3. Shaw's will have eight stores in Rhode Island after the closures.
The company ended its Reward Card program last month and cut prices on thousands of products.
