Victims identified in deadly crash on I-495 in Taunton

TAUNTON, Mass. -

The two people in the fatal I-495 crash in Taunton have been identified.

The victim who sustained fatal injuries in the crash has been identified as George A. Strachan Jr, 64, of Abington, Massachusetts.  He has also been identified as the driver of the vehicle.

His passenger who was transported by ambulance to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries has been identified as Mark A. Rodrigues, 45, of Rockland, Massachusetts. 

The cause of the crash is still under investigation at this time.

One person is killed and another seriously injured in a car crash on I-495 South in Taunton.

The crash happened just after 8:00 p.m. on Saturday when minivan with two people inside rolled over off of the road on I-495 South near exit 9.

According to a preliminary investigation conducted by the Massachusetts State Police the two people in the minivan were ejected from the vehicle during the accident. One of them was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other was taken to an area hospital with a serious leg injury.

The names of the victims and the hospital have not yet been released and are pending family notifications.

The accident remains under investigation by Troop D of the Massachusetts State Police with assistance provided by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, State Police crime Scene Services Section, and Bristol County State Police Detective Unit.
