RAYNHAM, Mass. -

A Rhode Island woman was taken into custody Friday night following a high speed car chase that started in Rhode Island and ended with a crash and short foot pursuit in Massachusetts.

Police tell NBC 10 that the chase began in Central Falls, RI following a traffic related incident. The driver then led the Central Falls Police on a chase traveling on Interstate 95 North into Massachusetts where Massachusetts State Troopers from the H and D Troops assisted in the pursuit of the vehicle.

The operator of the vehicle, Chelsea Smith, 26, of Providence, R.I. was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police after fleeing down Interstate 495 South in a chase that reached speeds over 100 miles per hour before finally coming to an end as Smith crashed while attempting to exit onto Route 24 South in Raynham. Following the crash Smith attempted to leave the scene on foot, but was caught and taken into custody after a brief pursuit by the Massachusetts State Police.

According to police Smith is being held without bail in Massachusetts on multiple charges that include failure to stop for police, speeding, and fugitive from justice. Smith will be arraigned Monday in Taunton District Court, and will also face additional charges from the Central Falls Police for her offenses in Rhode Island.
